Foot care is essential mainly because your feet take all the brunt. Are your feet swollen at the end of each day? This is a common problem these days. They seem okay in the morning but by the end of the day, they are swollen and they ache. Why?

This condition is called edema. This happens because fluid accumulates in your tissues. Because of gravity, the fluid accumulation occurs in your hands and feet. How to avoid this?

1. Reduce salt intake. Salt enhances fluid retention.

2. Lie down on your back and put your feet up. They should be about 12 inches above your heart level. Do this for 15 minutes about thrice a day.

3. Wear support stockings so that circulation is better and the gravitational movement of the fluids is contained. You can buy these stockings at drug stores or medical supply stores.

4. Make it a point to exercise each day.

5. If you are overweight, trying losing those extra pounds. Excess weight contributes to slow circulation.

6. Don’t be lethargic. Don’t sit in the same place for a long time. Move around.

7. If the problem persists, see a doctor. Do not ignore it at any cost.
