Thyroid problems are on the rise and if you want to steer clear of them it is important to understand everything about thyroid.

Keeping Thyroid In Check

Thyroid is a gland (the largest) located in the neck. This gland carries out a number of functions such as regulating hormone interaction, controlling the production of energy, and proteins, and so on. Thyroid abnormalities include hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism.

  • Hyperthyroidism: In this condition, there is overproduction of thyroid. Weight loss, nervousness, increased appetite, menstrual problems, fatigue, rapid heartbeat, irritability, and anxiety are some of the symptoms.
  • Hypothyroidism: In this condition, the gland is under-active. Loss of appetite, fatigue, heavy periods, and pain during periods, weight gain, and cholesterol are the symptoms.

There are things that you can do in order to avoid either of these conditions:

  1. Keep away from foods such as corn, coffee, raw cruciferous vegetables (you can cook them and eat them), soy, and canola oil.
  2. Raw seeds, whole grains, parsley, dates, and apricots should be included in your diet.
  3. It is important that you be active and that you include exercise in your daily regime.
  4. Keep away from white flour, sugar, and other processed foods.
  5. Try not stressing yourself too much. If you already have stress, try curbing it with techniques such as yoga.
